Obituary of Warren L. Broadwell March 18, 2016 Warren “Brad” Broadwell or as his buddies knew him, OP, 86, of Sterling, New York, passed away at the VA Hospital in Syracuse, New York on March 18, 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Brad fought his cancer as he fought as a US Marine at the Battle of Inchon, Korea with strength, integrity and valor. Born in Galen, New York on November 22, 1929. His parents were Warren and Doris Smith Broadwell. He is survived by a loving wife of nearly 61 years, Mary Lou (Tunnington) Broadwell; two children, Candy Clark of Auburn, New York and Bradly Broadwell of Durham, North Carolina; six loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A big sister, Barbara (Broadwell) Mack of North Fort Myers, Florida and a deceased sister, Patsy (Broadwell) Schneider were close friends of his family as was his golden retriever (And neighborhood ambassador) Tully Beau Dedu. Brad was active in creating cartoon and caricatures in pen and ink that proved to be the delight of many. He was also an avid golfer, supplementing his retirement income by taking nickels and dimes from various friends on golf courses throughout Central New York. After serving in Korea, and an honorably discharged after receiving a purple heart and a number of meritorious medals, including the state’s highest military award, The Conspicuous Service Cross, along with the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, The Korean Service Medal and The United Nations Medal. He was also an honorable member of The Marine Corps. Intelligence Association. He then attended Ithaca College studying accounting. Brad started his civilian career on the St. Lawrence Seaway Waterway project in Malone, New York, as his career progressed he moved to The General Electric Corporation, in Syracuse, New York, working in Finance in their E Lab up until his retirement. Brad loved his wife, the water, politics, Syracuse University sports and his children and grandchildren and was at peace in the garden at their home in Fair Haven, New York. All services will be held privately.
