Virginia “Betty” Rowlee, 91, of Oswego, NY, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Oswego Hospital. Born in Granby Center, she was a daughter to the late Franklin and Marion (Ketcham) Sweet and was raised on a dairy farm. Betty was a graduate of Fulton High School then attended music school in St. Louis, MO. She worked as a piano teacher for several years. She would also play at many of the area churches. Betty worked at KBC and Salvation Army. She was a talented crafter and loved selling her items at various craft shows with her family. Betty even owned and operated a craft store with her husband. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 66 years and held many presidential roles. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Delos; siblings, Shirley Whitney and James Sweet; in-laws, Charles Rowlee and Louise Sovocool.
Surviving are her two children, Lynn (Garry) Visconti, and David (Tim Smith) Rowlee; 4 grandchildren, Michael Lighthall, Jessica Lighthall, Kelly Coffey, and Ronald Visconti; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 3-6 pm on Tuesday, December 10th at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, and a service with the Auxiliary to immediately follow at 6 pm. A spring burial will be in North Scriba Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the American Legion Auxiliary Child Welfare Foundation, ALA Dept. of NY, 1580 Columbia Turnpike Bldg. 1 Suite 3, Castleton-on-Hudson, NY, 12033.
