We are saddened by the passing of our father, Thomas James Heaphy of Palermo, NY. He died at the age of 86, on Sunday, April 2, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in Syracuse, he was a son to the late Thomas and Leona (Delaney) Heaphy. After high school, Tom served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War. He later worked at Nestles for the next 25 years. Tom loved to play golf, enjoyed taking care of his lawn and was always up for a good game of cards. He would also host the family gatherings and camping trips. In his younger years, he loved to box. Tom was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Sue (Bellinger) Heaphy; two brothers, Leo “Nipper” and James Heaphy; his grandson, Douglas “Slim” Raymond, Jr.; and son-in-law, Aaron Lane.
He is survived by his children, Donna L. (Robbie) Fitzgerald of Yakima, WA., Debbie S. (Scott) Heaphy of Cato, Dolores Raymond (who lived with and cared for our Dad), John Henry Heaphy of Oswego, and Denise R. Lane of Auburn, WA; six grandchildren, America, Niki, Joshua, Kristi, Melissa and Kelly; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was an anatomical gift. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fulton, at a later date. For those wishing, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate in Tom’s memory. Foster Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
