Ruth Ecker Merz

Obituary of Ruth Ecker Merz August 12, 2015 Ruth E. Merz, 95, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, at St. Luke Health Services. Born in Hannibal, on June 16, 1920, she lived in Sterling with her husband for many years before they moved to Fulton in 1990. She relocated to Oswego in 2003. Ruth had worked in the Sterling Post Office as the Postmaster from 1950-1980. She was a member of the Sterling Valley Community Church and a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 1552 and The Huldah Chapter of the Eastern Stars of Hannibal. Mrs. Merz was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Vincent E. Merz; son, Vernon Merz; sister, Catherine Dailey and brother, Ralph M. Ecker, Jr. She is survived by one son, Vincent P. (Gail) Merz of California, Maryland; daughter-in-law, Marcia Merz of Marysville, Ohio; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter as well as several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours or services. Private burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
