Robert L. Colegrove, Sr., 85, of North Volney, NY, passed away at home on Saturday, December 23, 2023, after a brief illness. Born in Ithaca, NY, he was a son to the late Egbert Colegrove and Louia Webster (Ira) Stevens. Bob served in the National Guard. He worked as an operator for the Oswego Falls Pulp and Paper Company and through the transitions to Sealright then Huhtamaki, retiring after 48 years of dedicated service.
He was a dedicated volunteer for RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program) and spent his time working with the Human Concerns food pantry in Oswego, Catholic Charities, and an interactive children’s program at the State Fair horticulture building. He enjoyed spending time with the Lord and was dedicated to serving his church. Bob liked feeding the birds, watching his flowers grow each season, even buying flowers past their prime and bringing them back to life. He also enjoyed family gatherings, going to car shows, and camping with his wife, Margal.
He was predeceased by his parents, Egbert Colegrove and Louia and Ira Stevens; and his two sons, Randy Colegrove, and Michael Wood.
Robert is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margal (French) Colegrove; sister, Ann (Stevens) Burchim; his first wife, Lila (Lamond) Dubois of Lillington, NC; his children, Robert Colegrove, Jr. of Lillington, NC, Ricky Colegrove of Oswego, NY, Mark Colegrove of Lillington, NC, Lori (Bruce) Schell of Oswego, NY, Kelly (Ricky) Deyo of Lillington, NC, Heather (Jeremy) Hibbert of New Haven, NY; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the North Volney United Methodist Church in the spring followed by burial at North Volney Cemetery. Foster Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
