Lyal S. Edgarton passed away on June 3rd, 2024, in North Carolina. Lyal was born in Fulton, NY on March 25th, 1944, to the late Lee and Margaret Edgarton. He was named after his uncle Lyal Savage, who was killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 while aboard the USS Oklahoma when it was struck by multiple Torpedos.
Lyal graduated from Fulton High school in 1962. After graduation, he worked for Crown Tire before enlisting In the United States Air Force in 1965, where he served 4 years in Vietnam, and ending his enlistment as a staff Sergeant.
After returning home, he worked for Doty Oil, then Niagara Mohawk for many years. After that he worked for National Grid at the Steam Plant in Oswego NY, until his retirement in 2008. Throughout his adult life, he enjoyed Racing himself as a driver and watching local dirt Stock Car races and enjoyed several trips to NASCAR races. He also enjoyed watching TV and spending time with his three grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Elaine (Salsbury), Daughter Kelly Cates, Son Kevin Edgarton; His three grandsons, Joshua, Jaxin, and Beckett; His Sister Daryl (Larry) Tucker, Sister-in-law Janette Edgarton, and several nieces and nephews. Lyal was predeceased by his parents and brother Lee (Bud) Edgarton.
There will be a Celebration of life held on Saturday June 8th at 2pm at the Granby Center fire barn, Co Rte 8, Fulton NY.
Graveside service will be held at Mt. Adnah Cemetery at 1pm on Tuesday June 11, 2024, where he will be accorded full military honors. To leave a special message for the family, please sign the guestbook.
