Joan R. Swain

Joan R. Swain, 91, of Sterling, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at her home. She was born in Ogdensburg, NY to the late Floyd and Emma (Bennett) Gonyeau and was a lifelong resident of Sterling. Joan worked on the assembly line for Xerox for over 30 years. After retirement, Joan and her husband would spend winters in Florida, and she continued that tradition after he passed away in 2001. She was also a member of the Neahtawanta Sam’s Club of Fulton. Joan enjoyed cross-stitch, gardening, going to the casino and playing bingo. She was predeceased by her husband, Almon; daughter, Deborah A. Stark, her granddaughter, Alicia M. Brewer; and her sister, Marlene.

Surviving are her children, Joan M. Brewer of Camillus and Almon C. Swain, Jr. of Virginia; five grandchildren, Michelle (Chris) Stark, James (Maria) Stark, Michael (Nicole) Stark, Chaz (Heather) Brewer, and Cory (Alexis) Brewer; and five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 5-7 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the funeral home followed by burial at Fairdale Rural Cemetery, Hannibal.
