James Edward Burdekin, 88, of Fulton, NY, passed away on June 25, 2024. Jim was born on November 17, 1935, in Oswego, NY to Norman and Henrietta “Hattie” Burdekin. He was a member of the Naval Reserves then graduated from Oswego State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. For most of his career, Jim was a teacher and a guidance counselor for the Fulton City School District. Some of the subjects he taught at the high school were mechanical drawing, math, auto shop, and tennis. Jim was a lifetime member and two time president of Pathfinder Fish and Game Club. He was an avid sportsman, trapshooter and an accomplished hunter and fisherman. Later in life, Jim took up playing pool and volunteering at the Fulton Polish Home. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Hattie; wife, Daurice L. Burdekin; brothers, Norman “Bud”, Robert, John, and Stanley; and sister, Evelyn.
James leaves behind five beloved children, Gary (Sherry) Burdekin, Laurie Jo (Curt) Sheckles, Todd (Aleia) Burdekin, Lynn Burns, Amy LeBlanc; five grandchildren, Mandi (Jeffrey) Paquette, Lucas (Emily) Burdekin, Makayla (Chris) Jones, Gage LeBlanc, Jamie Burdekin and great grandchildren, Abigail and McKenna Paquette, Harper and Tate Jones and Dustin Burdekin. He will be forever loved and missed by family, wonderful friends and former students.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 pm on Wednesday, July 10th at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton with a service to immediately follow. A Celebration of Life will be at the Fulton Polish Home, 153 W. 1st Street S., Fulton, after the service. Everyone is invited to attend.
