Gary Battles

Gary Battles, age 77, of Fulton, New York, passed away peacefully on March 1st, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on December 8th, 1947, in Fulton, New York, Gary was a proud graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School. He served his country honorably as a Vietnam veteran in the United States Army and was awarded a Bronze Star with “V” device for heroism and valor.

Gary was a dedicated member of UA Local 73 pipefitters union, where he worked diligently for many years.

He was the beloved father of Sarah (Seth) Mensah and Jeff (Alicia) Battles. He was a loving grandfather to Sarah and Seth’s children, Naryana, Naja, and Anadi, and to Jeff and Alicia’s children, Wesley and Rory. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Rosalie Battles, and his parents, Nelson and Laura Mae Battles.

Gary was a passionate sports fan and a long-time season ticket holder for Syracuse Orange basketball, cherishing the many games he attended with his son, Jeff. He found joy in boating on Lake Ontario and traveling throughout the country. Gary was also incredibly handy, and he never stopped working on his house and his cherished cottage on Lake Ontario. He especially enjoyed camping trips in the Adirondack Mountains and taking his grandkids out for jet ski rides and ice cream.  He cherished and loved spending time with his partner he met later in life, Anita Abert.

He will be remembered for his dedication and unwavering love for his family, his enjoyment of life's simple pleasures, and his tireless work ethic.  He is truly missed by his family and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 21st, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, New York, with a memorial ceremony to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
