Frank I. Basile

d. December 11, 2015

Obituary of Frank I. Basile December 11, 2015 Frank I. Basile, 90, of Cato passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11th after a brief stay at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. He retired in 1996 after 23 years at Northern Ready Mix in Fulton and was a member of Operating Engineers Local #545 in Syracuse. Throughout Frank’s life he enjoyed many passions including a successful Golden Glove/professional boxing career, which included two bouts against world champion Carmen Basilio. Frank raced stock cars competitively for several years while farming on his 80-acre property. After retirement Frank worked for over 25 years at Dean D. Cummins Auctions. Frank’s greatest legacy is his family, an unquestionable work ethic, his kindness and his open “barn” policy. Everybody knew Frank and his elaborate biography, which included his endless appetite for Happy Days vanilla ice cream, his bountiful collection of Louis L’Amour books, his tendency to be accident prone, and his mechanical inclination: give him duct tape, a large enough hammer, and WD40, and the man could fix anything. Frank was known for his notable expressions, and who could argue his practical fashion sense of standard blues and his always-present flannel shirt. Frank was predeceased by a daughter, Joy L. Basile, and is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara J. Basile of Cato; a son, Michael (Cindy) Basile of Savannah, GA: a daughter Laura (James) Trevena of Scituate, MA; a sister, Grace Stolar of Central Square; two brothers, Nicholas (Virginia) Basile of Weedsport and Kenneth Basile of Baldwinsville; a cousin Dean D. Cummins; seven grandchildren, Colin and Kaley Basile, Kendyl and Keaton Trevena, Molly Parker, Barry and Robby McGill, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at the Ira Fire Department, Rt. 176 in Cato on Sunday, December 20th from 1:00-3:00pm, all are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Frank’s memory to the Ira Fire Department, 12591 Route 176, Cato, NY 13033.
