Elizabeth J. Simmons

Elizabeth Jane Simmons, 83, of Hannibal, NY passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, April 1, 2024, after a long illness. Born in Oswego, she was a daughter to the late Keith Chatterson and Eileen (Janaushek) Haines. Betty was a devoted wife and mother, spending her life raising 10 children. She enjoyed sewing, garage sales, auctions, and camping. Betty took great pride in her flower gardens and horses. She was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Thomas Simmons; two children, Danny and Christine, and her grandson, Thomas “Tommy” John Simmons.

Surviving are her children, William (Julie) Simmons, Patti (Dave) Sherman, Peggy (Duane) Shepard, Sandi Simmons, Sam (Angela) Simmons, Cindy (David) Fountain, Catherine (Charles) Murphy, and Mike (Heather) Simmons; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Williams, and Barbara Davis; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 12-2 pm on Sunday, April 7th at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal, with a service to immediately follow at 2 pm. A private burial will be held in Hannibal Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Spina Bifida Association of New York State, http://sbanys.org/ in Betty’s memory.
