Obituary of Donald R. Wallace September 8, 2016 Donald R. Wallace, 84, of Hannibal, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Oswego Hospital. Born in 1932 to Homer and Olive “Polly” Wallace in Oswego, he then moved to Hannibal in 1938. He graduated in 1949 from Hannibal as did his mother before him and his children. Don then married his wonderful understanding wife, Sydney, in 1961 and spent their honeymoon on a trout stream in the Adirondacks. He then spent two years in the Army serving in Germany. After 41 years of service, he retired from Container Corp. in Fulton. Don enjoyed all sports including hunting birds with his dogs who he loved dearly, muskrat and mink trapping, fly tying, fly fishing, ice fishing, bowling and baseball. His high school record as a pitcher was seventeen and two in league play, once striking out nineteen in a seven inning game at Parish. The high school record we believe still stands. Don was a member of Bowling Fulton Hall of Fame, three time NYS Senior Champ, four time Empire State Senior Champ, Horse Shoe Empire State Senior Champ, two hole in one’s and shot his age at 71. He enjoyed growing tomatoes, watching the bird and chipmunks at his feeder, knife collection and playing poker games with his family and friends. Don loved to walk and walk and walk as well as his loving wife and family. He was predeceased by his sister, Polly. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his wife of 55 years, Sydney; two children, Frederick (Maureen) Wallace of Hamilton and Deborah Chalone of Oswego and two grandsons, Alan and Maxwell. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, September 12 at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal. A funeral service will follow at noon.
