Donald H. Davenport

Donald “Don” H. Davenport, 96, of Hannibal, NY passed away on Thursday December 22, 2022, with his family by his side. Don was predeceased by his wife, Virginia (Umbeck) Davenport; parents, Howard and Iva Davenport; brothers, Junior, Ivan, Elmer, Raymond, and William Davenport; and son in law, Louie Kempston.

Don is survived by his loving children, Paul (Rose) Davenport and Gloria Kempston; grandchildren, Becky (Dan) Grattan, Renae (Troy) Welling, Jeff Kempston, and Christina (Brian) Goetz; great-grandchildren, Keira Grattan, Spencer Grattan, Nick Simmons, Ben Simmons, Calista Keefe, Mason Hancock, Wyatt Hancock, Cora Goetz and Harper Goetz; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Don served as a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service for 26 years. He was also a proud WWⅡ veteran who served in the Army.  Don was an avid hunter and liked to work in his gardens. He spent most of his time outside and always found a project to work on. Don loved to spend time with his family and they were always by his side.

Don was also an active member of his community and would help anyone in need. He served as fire chief for the Hannibal Fire Department and was a member for over 50 years. He was also a member of the American Legion, Hannibal Methodist Church, and Rural Carriers Association for many years.

Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, from 4pm-7pm at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal. A funeral service celebrating Don’s life will be held on Saturday, December 31st, 2022, at 10am at the Hannibal Methodist Church, 320 Church St., Hannibal. Burial will be at Fairdale Rural Cemetery on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 1pm where Don will be laid to rest with his wife, Virginia. To leave a special message for family, please sign the guestbook.
