Ward H. Greenwood, 72, of Volney, passed away Saturday at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hannibal, Ward was a life resident of the Fulton – Oswego areas. He retired in 2002 from Black Clawson, Fulton. He had also worked many years with Local 747, Oswego. Ward was an Air Force veteran and life member of Fulton V.F.W. Post 569. A machine fabricator by trade, Ward enjoyed working with metal within his home shop. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his sister, Faye Gehring. Ward is survived by his wife of 35 years, the former Paula Cranston; five daughters, Carla Madden of Fulton, Wendy (Richard) Wilson of FL, Tina Palmitesso of Fulton, Shelley (Peter) Alonso of FL and Holly Beth (Larry) Eichel of FL; a brother, Thomas Greenwood of FL; grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Nicole, Larry, Alexander, Kara, Steven and David; great-grandson, Dillon; nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial will be at Oswego Town Rural Cemetery, Oswego. Nancy Ostness, 72, of Volney, passed away Thursday. Prior to moving to Volney she had worked as a nurse in Detroit. Nancy worked as a cake decorator at Carvel Ice Cream for more than 27 years. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary for Fulton Elk B.P.O.E 830. Nancy enjoyed flower gardening, playing bingo and canvas sewing. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Leonard Ostness, who passed away May 11. Surviving: a daughter, Lisa (Worden) Somers of Sterling; two sons, Lawrence J. (Constance) Ostness of Fulton and Lee A. Ostness of Baldwinsville; daughter-in-law, Ginny Ostness of Fulton; sister, Shirley Forlenzo; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Heath, Krystal, Brandi, E.J., Mikayla and Jacob; a great-granddaughter, Olivia; a niece, Merrilee Ferber and nephew, Jim Forlenzo and several other nieces. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday with a service to immediately follow at 1 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton. Burial will follow at Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton. Richard “Dick” A. Handville, 65, of Hannibal died Thursday after a long battle with lung disease at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Syracuse. Dick graduated from Elbridge High School and served in the Navy from 1963 to 1967 as a flight director on the USS Saratoga and the USS Essex. Dick was a pole barn builder for more than 33 years and was also the North East Regional Sales Manager for Stockade Buildings, Inc. He had enjoyed big game and prairie dog hunting, camping and motor home traveling with many friends and family. Dick was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed. Surviving: his wife of 38 years, Sharon Talcott Handville; sons, Chad of AZ., Jason of Seneca Falls, Jeffery (Melanie) of Phoenix and Robert Champion of Jordan; step-sons James Putnam of Oswego and Steven Putnam of Hannibal; daughters, Rebecca (Ken) Empey of Chadwick and Danie (Edward) Maynes of Fulton; four brothers, Ronn, James, Gregory, and Raymond; 3 sisters, Cheryl Barbara and Cindi; 22 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; Calling hours are Saturday 12 to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. with a 6 p.m. service to immediately follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal. John W. Davis, Sr.

John W. Davis, 91, of Fulton, died Monday at Oswego Hospital. A native of Bellows Falls, Vermont, Mr. Davis had resided in Fulton since 1946.  He retired in 1982 as a salesman after 37 years at Black Clawson, Fulton.  Mr. Davis was a 1940 graduate of the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mr. Davis was a member of the First United Church of Fulton, formerly the First Presbyterian Church.  He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Fulton.  He served as Captain of the 37th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II where he received the Bronze Star Medal for Bravery. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Davis, who died in 1996. Surviving:  two sons, John W. Davis, Jr. of Queensbury and Morgan E. Davis of Verplanck as well as four grandchildren, Jennifer Davis of Scotia, Jeffery Davis of Flagstaff, AZ, Casey and Morgan J. Davis of Verplanck; companion, Ella Cantine of Volney. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010 at First United Church of Fulton, 33 South Third Street, Fulton. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Parish. Following the graveside services the family invites everyone for a time of fellowship and refreshments at the church. Richard “Dick” Eckard, 74, of Fulton died Thursday. He had worked at Container Corporation of America in Fulton and Northern Ready Mix in Volney. Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. Surviving are four children, Denise (Tom) Grinnell of Minetto, Kim (David) Berryhill, Julie Eckard and Richard Eckard all of NC; a sister, Yvonne (Morris) Stone of Oswego; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Robert J. Smith, Sr., 88, of Oswego and formerly of Syracuse passed away May 20, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Born is Oswego Town to the late Archibald and Dorotha Smith he was a life resident of the Oswego – Syracuse areas.  Robert retired in February 1984 from General Electric Company in Liverpool as a stock clerk where he worked for 37 years.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1942 to 1945. Robert was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Smith; sister, Jeannette Goodway and by a son, Robert J. Smith, Jr. who died February 22, 2009.  Surviving:  his wife of 65 years, Grace Marie Callahan Smith formerly of Syracuse; daughters, Dorotha (Dot) A. Smith Bennett, Joann M. (Michael) Mays, Mary Jean (Larry) Swiger, Hazel R. (David) Shoults; son, Joseph A. Smith; a brother, Wayne A. (Geraldine) Smith, several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Calling hours are Monday 4 to 7 p.m. with a service to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal.  Private burial will be at Hannibal Village Cemetery at a later date.

Ronald J. (Greeney) Green, 73, of Fulton died May 19, 2010 at home. Born in Vernon, he graduated from Oneida High School and joined the Navy serving during the Korean War. Ron moved to Fulton 27 years ago. He was an electrician and worked at Rome Air Force Base, Oneida Ltd., Miller Brewery and New Process Gear, where he retired in 1999. He was a member of the Country Cruizers, American Legion in Munnsville, E.L.O.S.T.A. and he was the president of I.O.O.B. Club.

Ron was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Green, who died August 30, 2007. He is survived by five daughters, Susan (Randy) Bartlett of Ocala, FL, Cheryl (Randy) Hokanson of Fulton, Sheila Simpson of Fulton, Sandra Chapin of Harpursville and Cynthia (Robert) Dunbar of Fulton; mother, Beulah Green of Oneida Castle; two sisters, Bonnie Carver of Oneida Castle and Jen (Jack) Erenwein of Sherrill; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy and Fulton V.F.W. Post #569 will be at Jacksonville Cemetery, Lysander. Leonard E. Bateman, 83, formerly of Fulton, died May 19, 2010. Leonard was a truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 317. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Leonard was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, June Muckey Bateman, who died in 2009; his youngest son, Eric Bateman, who died in 2007 and a brother, Earnest Bateman, who died in 2001. Surviving are six sons, Jeff (Sherry) Bateman, Keith (Lori) Bateman, Martin Bateman, Timothy (Deborah) Bateman, Jim Bateman and Kris (Peggy) Bateman; three daughters, Cheryl Bateman, Lynne (LaVerne) Ryder and Jeannine (Don) Rammage. Leonard is also survived by 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday with a service to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton. Agnes H. Stacey LaClair Stanton, 87, of Fulton, died May 18, 2010 at home. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. Agnes enjoyed cooking and knitting sweaters for her cherished family. She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd D. Stanton, who died in 1982.

Surviving are her five children, Leon (Rebecca) LaClair of Denver, CO, Terry LaClair of Albuquerque, NM, Floyd (Connie Henderson) Stanton, Jr. of Fulton, Sandra (Darryl) Elliott of Sandy Creek and Bonnie (Diana Gardiner) Frawley of Phoenix; four sisters, Carol Murray, Delores Yazel, Veronica Pond and Frances Manning all of FL; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, John LaClair and sister-in-law, Beatrice LaClair.

Memorial services are 10 a.m. Friday at Pennellville United Methodist Church, 389 County Route 54, Pennellville. There are no calling hours. Marian Chubb Ladd

Marian Chubb Ladd, 92, of Washington, NC, formerly of Volney, died April 7, 2010.  She was the youngest of eight children to the late James and Etta Rowe Chubb.  Marian had worked at Nestle Company and The Oswego Valley News.  She and her husband had owned and operated the Mini Motel in Volney.  Marian was a lifelong member of State Street United Methodist Church in Fulton.  She had a great love of music and shared her love through playing guitar at various gatherings.  Marian was predeceased by her husband, Gerald M. Ladd, in 1999.  She is survived by her children, Carol L. Duda of Washington, NC and G. Scott Ladd of Volney and three grandchildren.  A calling hour will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, with services to immediately follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.
