Beatrice I. Payne, 81, of Fulton, died Sunday at Oswego Hospital. Born in Fulton, she was a life resident. Beatrice retired from A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital Snack Bar in 1991 after seven years. She had previously worked at Nestle Company in Fulton. Beatrice was a doll collector and had a home business of restoring antique dolls. Beatrice was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Allan Payne who died June 30, 2009; by two brothers, Harvey and Harry Inch and by a sister, Verna Harper, who died in 2006. Surviving: two daughters, Linda Payne-Sylvester of Maine and Jean Shortt of Port Orange, Florida; two sisters, Myrtle Taber of Hannibal and Ethel Chubb of Fulton; three grandchildren, James, Jerry and Scott Carr; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. Burial will be at Fairdale Rural Cemetery, Hannibal.

Raymond N. Schofield, Jr., 81, of Fulton died March 27, 2010. He was born in Fulton and was a life resident. Ray worked at Oswego Industries for several years. He was a member of the A.R.C. Seniors. Ray enjoyed collecting stamps, assembling model cars and arts and crafts. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Velma Schofield. Ray is survived by a sister, Ruth Geis of Fulton; a nephew, Edward Geis of Fulton, an aunt, Shirla Helmer of Central Square and several cousins. He also leaves behind several close friends at A.R.C. and Sunrise Nursing Home in Oswego. Calling hours are 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday with funeral services to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton. Burial will be in Fairdale Rural Cemetery, Hannibal. Marceline H. O’Mara, 80, of Granby, passed away Sunday at her daughter’s home. Born in Syracuse she was a long time resident of the Syracuse area before moving to Granby. Marceline was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. O’Mara who died December 24, 2009; a sister, Virginia Webb and brother, Laverne Sova. Surviving: children, Donald O’Mara of Rochester, Linda Land of CA, Cathy Colvin of Granby, Richard O’Mara of Baldwinsville and David O’Mara of Cicero siblings, Richard Sova of Chicago, Wayne Sova of Erie, PA and Karen O’Mara of Clinton; four grandchildren. Jean L. Green, 71 of Hannibal, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday.  Born in Kingston, Ontario, Jean was a long time resident of the Hannibal area.  For several years she had worked at Rosie’s Tavern and enjoyed bowling.  Jean is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clayton; four children, Kim Green, Clayton Green Jr., Kirby Green and Cindy Ware; a brother, Bill Sly; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday with a 5 p.m. service to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.  Burial will be held at a later date at Christ Church on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, Ontario, Canada.  Contributions may be made to Friends of Oswego County Hospice, P.O. Rose M. Diak, 83, of Fulton, died Friday at Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton.  Born in Fulton, she was a life resident.  Rose was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Fulton.  She was a waitress at Meagher’s Diner for several years.  Rose was predeceased by her parents, Harvey Hammond and Mary Ormsby as well as brothers, Harvey Hammond, Jr. and Paul Hammond.  She is survived by her husband, Edward Diak of Fulton; two sons, Douglas and Dennis (Patty) Diak both of Fulton; two sisters, Beverly Benedict and Lillian Woodward both of Fulton; three brothers, William Hammond of Phoenix, Maurice Hammond of Fulton and Gerald Hammond of Granby; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton.  Burial will be in Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton.  Calling hours are     2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton.

Shirley A. Lockwood, 83, of Fulton, died Thursday at Michaud Residential Health Services. Born in Fulton she was a life resident of the Fulton – Volney area. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Margaret Lockwood. Surviving: siblings, Jean Ives, Dennis, Gerald, Earl and Neil Lockwood all of Volney. Services will be private. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Volney. A wonderful, wife, a loving mother and grandmother, Dona Lee Karns, formerly Dona Baldy, 66, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully in her home on February 3, 2010 after a long fight with cancer. Dona was born in Fulton, NY, where she spent the first 60 years of her life. During that period, she worked for many years at the Nestle Chocolate Factory in the accounting department. She was active in her church and an avid quilter in Fulton and in Las Vegas. She was predeceased by her father, retired Fulton Chief of Police Donald A. Zellar, who passed away in 1993 and by her mother, Agatha “Gay” Zellar, who passed away in 2009.  Dona is survived by her much loved husband of 6 1/2 years, Phil J. Karns; her two sons, Richard Baldy of Irving, CA, and Jason Baldy of Hickory, NC. She had five grandchildren whom she loved very much. She will be interred in Fulton in late May, with her grandmother, Nellie Mae Waldron, with whom she had many pleasant memories of cooking, sewing, quilting and learning about life. During her stay on Earth, she touched many hearts and was always a helping friend and companion. She will be missed by everyone who knew her, especially her husband and quilting helper, Phil Karns. Services will be graveside, celebrated by the Rev. Marc Haynes; the date will be announced later.

Marjorie F. Fuller

Marjorie F. Fuller, who would have been 100 next month, passed away in Dothan, Alabama on March 15, 2010.  A lifelong resident of Oswego County, she and her husband, Malcolm, who died in 2000, owned and operated the Mal-Mar Farm in Bowens Corners, NY.
Both Marjorie and Malcolm were elected to the office of Town Clerk for the Town of Granby and together faithfully served the residents for nearly fifty years.  In 1990 they received the Town of Granby Outstanding Citizens Award.
Marjorie was a lifelong member of Bowens Corners United Methodist Church and had served in many capacities.  She and Malcolm were married there on June 29, 1929.  She was a member of Elizabeth Chapter No. 105 OES and a fifty-year member of the Bowens Corners Grange.
Marjorie is survived by a daughter, Priscilla R. Roach, of Daleville, Alabama; a son, John R. Fuller of Central Square; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.    Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Bowens Corners United Methodist Church, 758 Route 176 with burial at Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and an Eastern Star service to be conducted at 6:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton.  Contributions in memory of Marjorie may be made to Bowens Corners United Methodist Church, 758 Route 176, Fulton, NY 13069.

Kenneth R. Calkins, 61, of Hannibal died suddenly Saturday at Oswego Hospital.  A native of North Sterling, he was a life resident of the Hannibal area.  Ken was supervising manager of Parts Plus in Oswego and Wolcott and had previously owned and operated Morabito Auto Parts in Wolcott.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1972.  Ken was a member of American Legion Prior Stock Post 1552 in Hannibal and AMVETS Post 1017, Hannibal.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Mary (Hubbard) Calkins.  He is survived by:  his wife, Cheryl Sherman Calkins of Hannibal; daughter, Deborah Calkins-Cook of Oswego; son, Ryan Calkins of CA; grandchildren, Morgan and Mitchell Cook of Oswego; sister, June (Ron) Bartlett of Oswego; brothers, James (Shirley) Draper of VA, Floyd (Marilyn) Calkins of Hannibal and Lester (Vicki) Calkins of TX; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Mary (Tetro) Guiffrida, 96, of Fulton died March 10, 2010.  She was born in Fulton and was a life resident.  Mary worked at The Woolen Mill, Sealright, Kay’s Tot Shop and at Thunder Island where she was known as “Grandma”.  She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.  Mary was a communicant of the former Holy Family Church.  She was predeceased by her husband, Rosario Guiffrida, who died in 1997.  Mary is survived by three children, Anna (Harold) Perau of Fulton, Samuel (Sue) Guiffrida of Sarasota, FL and Debora (James) Palmitese of Sandy Pond; sisters, Julia Holt, Josephine Puglia and Pearl Canale; brother, James Tetro; eight grandchildren, Harold (Tammie) Perau, Jr., Roxanne (Gary) Poe, Suzanne (Angelo) Pedone, Darlene Perau, Wendy (Rod) Law, Doug (Amy) Guiffrida, Lisa (Kevin) St. Hilaire, Chuck Giovo; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  A prayer service will be Monday at 9 a.m. at Foster Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, corner of Rochester and South Third Streets, Fulton. Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.  Spring burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.  Contributions in memory of Mary can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
