Nellie A. Smith, 80, of Oswego passed away Monday at Sunrise Nursing Home. A native of Elmira, Ms. Smith had resided in Fulton and Florida since 1949. She retired in 1994, as a LPN, from Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was a member of Oswego Bible Baptist Church and Emmanuelle Baptist Church in Ft. Myers. A loving and caring sister and aunt, she is survived by: three sisters, Daisy Penfield of Oswego, Ruth Larson of Pennsylvania and Gertrude Leopard of Elmira; a brother, William Smith of Elmira; nieces & nephews. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Friday with a 4 p.m. service to immediately follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. Spring burial will be at Roosevelt Cemetery, Schroeppel.

Leila E. Fineout, 97, formerly of the towns of Granby and Palermo, died in Oswego, Friday afternoon following a sudden brief illness. She was married to Clyde Fineout in 1958, who died in 1987. She was also predeceased by a son Leslie Lund and a daughter, Leila Caprin. Mrs. Fineout retired from the Nestle Co. in 1962. She enjoyed her memberships in Lake City-Victoria #205, O.E.S., Oswego and the Cairo and Ilderim Temples of Daughters of the Nile. She is survived by: a son, James (Eleanor) Lund of Scriba; daughters, Phyllis Mett of Dunnellon, FL and Eileen (Edward) Allport of Pulaski; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service and burial will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charities of one choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Foster Funeral Home, Fulton.

Georgia J. Dann Wallace, 91, of Fulton, passed away Thursday at Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton. She was born in Fulton and was a homemaker. Georgia was a communicant of The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Fulton. She was predeceased by a son, Louis Wallace and a daughter, Jean Keeney. Georgia is survived by: two daughters, Sandra Szatanek of Baldwinsville and Elsie Beyer of Lowville; five sons, Jesse Wallace of Fulton, John Wallace, Jr. of Fulton, Richard Wallace of Central Square, Roy Wallace of Colonial Heights, VA and Dennis Wallace of Oswego; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Church, corner of Rochester and South Third Streets, Fulton. Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton.

Betty Jane (Ouderkirk) Darby, age 78, of Fulton, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010. She was the daughter of Charles and Sadie (Smith) Ouderkirk. Ms. Darby resided in Fulton most of her life. She was a member of the Dexterville Seventh Day Adventist Church in Fulton. Ms. Darby was predeceased by two brothers, James and Howard Ouderkirk and two sisters, Eleanor Lewchannin and Carol Caswell. She is survived by four sons, Michael (Sandy) Ouderkirk of Fulton, William (Patty) Darby of North Carolina, Rory (Deborah) Darby of Utah and Christopher (Marie) Darby of Fulton; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Angie) Ouderkirk of Fulton and one sister, Marlene (George) Ashby of Fulton. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at The Manor at Seneca Hill for their special care. Memorial services will be held in the spring. Ida Mae (Baldwin) Southworth, 71, of Oswego, died January 13, 2010. Born in Oswego, she was a life resident of the Oswego – Fulton area. Ida was a waitress at the Green and White Diner. She had been employed at Nestle Co., Fulton as a line worker and at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton as a nurse’s aid. Ida loved gardening, flowers, cooking and to dance. Surviving are: six children, Jacqueline (John) Fay of Oswego, Lewis (Sandra) Baldwin, Jr. of North Syracuse, Judy (Harry) Bartlett of Mexico, Joseph (Diane) Baldwin of Fulton, Susan (Stephan Prentice) Dopp of Fulton and Bridget (Stephen) Arnold of Fulton; a brother , William Schlotterbeck; two sisters, Catherine Schlotterbeck and Mary Alice Hirsch; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, corner of Rochester and South Third Streets, Fulton. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego. Ruth Ellen Ritter, 92, of Oswego, formerly of Fulton, died January 12, 2010. She was born in Volney to the late Monroe and Violet Holbrook Prouty and lived most of her life in the Central New York area. Ruth worked at the former Triangle Farms Dairy and Gillespie Dairy both in Fulton. She was a member of the former West Baptist Church in Fulton. Ruth enjoyed crocheting and making blankets for nursing home residents. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Ritter, who died in 1997 and by a daughter, Joan Ritter, who died in 2008. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Patty Ritter-Hensel of Oswego; sister, Toni Nesbitt of Kansas; granddaughter, Sherri Giddings of Oswego; grandson, Patrick Halstead of Fulton; two great-grandchildren, Sara and Ryan Giddings both of Nevada. Calling hours and funeral services are private. Spring burial will be in Vermillion Cemetery. Foster Funeral Home, Fulton has care of arrangements.

Ruth K. Menard, 95, of Fulton, died Monday at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. A native of Oswego, she had resided in Fulton for over fifty years. Mrs. Menard retired in 1977 from Nestle Foods where she had worked as a registered nurse for 22 years. She had previously worked as night nursing supervisor at A.L. Lee Memorial hospital from 1953-55. Mrs. Menard was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Fulton. She was a member of the A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital Retired Nurses Association and Nestle Supervisory Group. Mrs. Menard was predeceased by her husband, Francis N. Menard in 1995 and by a son, Michael E. Menard in 1999.
Surviving are: a brother, George Kline of Phoenix; two grandchildren, Lisa and Ryan Menard; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held in the spring at a time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, 13220.

Leonard A. Spaziani, of Fulton, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 surrounded by family at the age of 80 after a long illness. Born in Cortland, NY, he was the son of the late Augusto and Maria (DiRuscio) Spaziani. Mr. Spaziani attended Cortland schools and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He graduated from SUNY Cortland with a BS degree in Physical Education and Recreation Management and was the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Fulton from 1967 until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Spaziani was predeceased by a daughter, Holly Otis in 2001 as well as four sisters, Anna Yacone, Gilda Spaziani, Rose Pannozzo and Irma English. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marie Lilly Spaziani; children, Lenette (James) Laboda of Fulton, Teresa Lilly (Carlton Hewings) of Rochester, Kathleen Leavens of Fulton, Mary Beth Lilly of Cicero, Charles Lilly of Syracuse, Mark Lilly of Fulton and Christopher Lilly of Oswego; son-in-law, Michael Otis of Fulton; 11 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care of the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, especially the staff of the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Kenneth I. Taylor, Sr., 69, of Fulton, died Sunday at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse after a long illness. Ken retired from the General Motors-Fisher Guide Plant in Syracuse after 36 years and was a greeter at the Fulton Wal-Mart. Ken loved the outdoors and to hunt. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Mary L. (Mullen) Taylor, who died May 19, 2009. Surviving are his children, Debby, Tammy, Kenneth Jr., John, Douglas and Shirley; his siblings, Lois, Katherine, Shirley, Martin and Frank; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Foster Funeral Home with spring burial at Fairdale Rural Cemetery, Hannibal.
