Barbara Elaine Jones, 84, of Fulton died Saturday after a long illness that she fought with courage and grace. As a young girl, Barbara (a.k.a. Bobbie Barnard) was an accomplished ballet and tap dancer. She performed for many audiences including stage performances at the Hotel Syracuse and for soldiers at Fort Drum. Barbara also appeared on postcards in the 1930’s and played the accordion, which she sold when she was 15 to help with her father’s medical expense due to leukemia. Barbara worked for several years as the receptionist and switchboard operator at Black Clawson Co. Later in life she had a successful career as a real estate agent for Abell’s Real Estate. In 1980 she was named Real Estate Agent of the Year. After retiring in 1981, Barbara moved to Florida, while in Florida she spent many good times with her husband, children and grandchildren at the beach, Disney World and Busch Gardens. She also traveled to the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville and Las Vegas where she loved to play the slot machines. In 1994 Barbara returned to Fulton where her main purpose and passion in life continued to be her family. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Barbara was predeceased by an infant son, Martin Neal Jones; a sister, Jean Smith and by her husband, Michael Carl Jones, who died in 2006.

Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Wilson of Trinity, N.C. and Lisa (Mark) Emrich of Fulton; three grandchildren Laurie (Adam) Malkin of Palm Harbor, FL, Alan Michael Emrich and Nicholas Martin Emrich both of Fulton. Barbara’s memory will always live on in them and her beautiful spirit will be forever etched in time.

Calling hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday with 1 p.m. funeral services to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton. Burial will be at Pennellville Cemetery in Pennellville, NY.
